The atelier
Atelier Renata Santos Machado is a boutique residential interior design atelier, based in Lisbon since 2002.
We work on complete projects, from concept to final handover, for discerning Portuguese and international clients who value time, rigour, method, service and a single point of contact responsible for everything on their behalf.
One atelier from start to finish: we design the project, choose every piece, supply it, carry it out and run the works through to handover. We do not take on commercial projects.
We work in Lisbon, along the Cascais coast, in Bom Sucesso, Comporta, Melides and the Algarve, and the team travels anywhere in Portugal. Enquiries reach us from Washington, Miami, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, London, Angola and Spain.
We receive clients at our showroom in Campo Pequeno, Lisbon, and handle every project with complete discretion.

Questions about the atelier
Why choose Atelier Renata Santos Machado?
We have worked since 2002 on residential projects of different scales, with a pragmatic, tailored approach, great aesthetic rigour and full commitment to each client. We aim to be part of the solution, handling your home project on your behalf, and we save our clients significant time and effort through our know-how and our network of specialist partners.
Do you have a portfolio I can review?
Yes. Our projects are in Projects, with photographs and a description of each one.
Where are you based, and where do you work?
In Lisbon, at Campo Pequeno. We work across Portugal, and meetings can be in person or online, as the client prefers. For clients who live outside Portugal, the project can be followed remotely.
What is the design process?
It starts with a briefing meeting. We then develop the concept, moodboards, layout, technical dossier, budgets and procurement, and finish with logistics, installation and support after handover.
How is the project presented?
Preferably in person, at the atelier, with plans and elevations, moodboards, physical material samples, detailed technical sheets where needed, and photographic mock-ups.
How long does a project take?
It depends on the scope and the size. A full renovation typically takes 4 to 12 months; a turnkey decoration project, 3 to 6 months. Each project's schedule is set at the start and kept through to handover.
How are the atelier's fees set?
The overall investment is set by the client, according to the scope, size and level of finish they want, and the atelier adapts the creative options to it. Before work begins, the client receives a detailed fee proposal, with no obligation.
